Biography
Award winning artist, Cynthia Dybsky, was born and raised in Algona, Ia. Even at a young age she always had a desire to be creative, to recreate something that made an impression or inspired her. Upon completing high school, Dybsky began her art education at the College of St Catherine in St Paul, Mn. In 1976, she married and moved to Chicago, Illinois. Dybsky was employed in retail for 10 years becoming a buyer for a large department store before opening her own shop in the Printers Row district of downtown Chicago.Following a car accident in 1984, she began to pursue a new career becoming a muralist and trompe l'oeil painter. She also volunteered for 8 years painting backdrops for a local theater in California when she moved there in 1995.Dybsky discovered plein air painting in 2012 and joined the Plein Air Painters of Chicago. She enjoys looking at things with a discerning artists eye, studying shapes, colors, values, how they relate to one another and then rendering these perceptions on canvas.Dybsky enjoys painting urban scenes because of her fond memories living in the city. Her love of rural scenes are because of her great memories and experiences growing up in a small Iowa farm town and her attachment to coastal scenes are the result of the years lived in Southern California. Each brushstroke is the result of observations, skills learned, numerous workshops and most importantly, her memories and emotions.She primarily paints in oils but occasionally indulges in watercolor especially while traveling. She has a fondness for painting plein air but also enjoys creating studio works using her outdoor sketches as inspiration. She gives instruction twice a week in her studio during the winter months.Since 2012, Dybsky has dedicated herself to painting full-time and participates in numerous art exhibits and competitions.
